HOW TO: Wear a Pencil Skirt | With a Denim Shirt

Happy new month lovelies!
I hope July is treating you well so far. Is it me or is Nairobi getting colder and colder! I'm beginning to wish I could get a pair of warm adult rompers so I can be as warm as Elly is. I have had this pencil skirt for a while (pre-baby) and even though pencil skirts are quite simple and chic, I can't quite manage to dress it up. I have been on Pinterest hunting for ideas on how to wear a pencil skirt.

For a simple Sunday outfit, worn to Church, I paired it with a denim shirt and some sling backs. Pairing something casual (the denim shirt) with dressy pieces (pencil skirt, heels and some statement jewellery), was my attempt to dress down and not look too formal.
This is my first attempt at styling a pencil skirt, post-maternity. I have found that my style preferences have changed a bit since Elly was born. I will be sure to write a post about this later this month.
Outfit Details:
Pencil Skirt: gift, part of a suit
Denim Shirt: India
Vest: India
Slingbacks: Moi Avenue, Nairobi
Earrings: Super-Cosmetics, Nairobi

DRESSED IN CHOCOLATE BROWN AND PINK

Hi all!!! I hope your week is coming along great. I'm starting to have a back-log of posts and I'm beginning to wonder how to catch up. I wore this outfit some weeks ago. I found it in my archives and since it's Breast Cancer Awareness month, I thought it would be appropriate.  I'm a huge fan of shirts!!! I could wear them every day but I'm going through a dress and skirts phase at the moment. I got these pants a few years back and I only started wearing them this year. They are my most formal pants and I like to save them for days when I want to dress for the corporate world.   Outfit Details: Trousers: gift Shirt: Sarojini Market, New Delhi, India Wedge sandals: Trade Fair, New Delhi, India Quilted bag: Sarojini Market, New Delhi India Belt: from my sister Bracelets: from my sister Earrings: gift Alice band: from my sister Necklace: gift This shirt has such a good fit, I'll be shuttered when it gets too old to wear. OUTFIT: Palazzo Pants and Plaid

Hi!!! I hope your week is coming along great. Mine is not too bad. My left upper and lower jaws have been giving me problems the whole week and my dentist (who also happens to be my dad) says he can't do anything until the swelling and the pain subsides. I could scream!!! This is my second pair of wide-leg trousers or palazzo pants thanks to Mik of Stylish Obsessions (I didn't know they were called that!!). I love these ones just as much as these other ones. I particularly like these in the warmer weather because they are much cooler than wearing denim. This is part of my transitioning for the colder months. I paired these brown wide-leg trousers with a black t-shirt and sweater top. I added a waist-coat last, worn here, to add some interest to my outfit. I had a CAT on this day so I didn’t have peace of mind to think up an elaborate outfit. I accessorized with white and brown bracelets and silver loop earrings. I think I was feeling minimalist on this day. I wore ...

Celebrity Style Crush: Reese Witherspoon

I often look to celebrities' street style looks to get outfit ideas and to learn how to incorporate the latest trends into  my everyday looks. This time I have fallen in love with Reese Witherspoon's style which I find particularly inspiring in the heat that we have been experiencing in Nairobi lately. I love how she adds pops of colour be it with loud colours like yellow and bright pink or with subtle colours like a lighter shade of blue. I like that she mixes up her style by wearing dresses, skirts and jeans. She always looks polished. However, I would switch out her heels for classy flat shoes or sneakers.
