STYLISH FIRST LADIES

Hi all!
Today we Kenyans will get out fourth President. As much as there's pomp and fanfare, I'm more interested in seeing our new First Lady's style.
On Sunday I read an article in the Daily Nation about First Ladies and style by Carol Odero and it got me thinking. I therefore decided to write a post about First Ladies around the globe and their style.

Chinese First Lady, Peng Liyuan
She has been pegged as First Lady to watch. Her style is more out there than her predecessors.

She has been known to prefer outfits made in China.

Cameroon First Lady, Chantal Biya
As little as I know about her, I love that her style is daring. She's not the typical First Lady in understated outfits. And her hair...enough said!

Samantha Cameron
Mrs Cameron wears a lot of blue, but who's complaining? She looks fab. I love the simplicity of her outfits and the subtle prints.

US First Lady, Michelle Obama
I love Mrs Obama's style as you might tell from the number of posts I've made of her.

PLACES TO VISIT: KARURA FOREST

Hi all!! Travel is one of my passions. I've always wanted to visit new places and learn new things. One of my resolutions this year is to take time out to visit different parts of Kenya. And then I will share the posts with you. My first Places to Visit post is on my trip to Karura Forest. A little history about the forest:  Karura Forest is located in Nairobi. Several tributaries of the Nairobi River flow through the forest. The forest is managed by the Kenya Forest Service and when there were threats to use parts of the forest to put up housing, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Wangari Maathai working through her Green Belt Movement, put up a fight to protect the forest and hence one of the city's water catchment areas. And in that way, one of our most important indigenous forests was saved from encroachment. My Experiences from the Trip: I went to Karura before the weather became cold and rainy. Although it was very hot that time of year, once inside the forest,...

WHAT I WORE: ELECTRIC BLUE LEATHER

Hi all!!  This post should have gone up a while back, but my disorganization will be the death of me.  I have had a  deep seated love for leather for ages . But I am unable to buy anything that is imitation leather. So getting a leather jacket, pants, skirt or dress has been a very slow process.  And lo and behold, one Friday I accompanied mum to the market and there was a lady selling everything leather for KSh. 50 only. I was low on cash at that time but I couldn't resist. I found this skirt and a purple one and I begged mum to buy them. Voila! My electric blue, pencil leather skirt. I wore it with a white loose-fitting blouse and tan wedges (although I later changed into flats) to Church one Sunday.  Outfit Details: Leather Skirt: Kangemi Market, Nairobi Blouse: Bus Station, Nairobi Shoes: Ngara, Nairobi Handbag: Gift I'm still unsure of the length of this skirt. I think I'll cut it and change it from mid-length...

FEELS LIKE AUTUMN

Hi all!!! I hope you’re having a better week than I am. I know it’s only Tuesday but I’m feeling so low I just want this week to end. I’m currently reading a book that is forcing me to look at my life and make some changes for the better. I have been struggling with some things the reality of which I have been running away from. But I’ve come to realize that I will have to face this reality sooner or later. I’ve decided to do it now instead of carrying a lot of unnecessary baggage with me for the rest of my youth. Back to today's post. There are times when my creativity is on overdrive. Those are the days when I'll come up with an outfit that leaves me feeling super proud of myself and makes me walk on cloud nine. I wore this to work last Monday and what a mood booster it was!! Have you realized how your mood is instantly uplifted if you are dressed well? This skirt is one of my projects that  I categorized in my 4 goals before 2013 . I had said I wanted to get m...
