PLACES TO VISIT: KARURA FOREST

Hi all!! Travel is one of my passions. I've always wanted to visit new places and learn new things. One of my resolutions this year is to take time out to visit different parts of Kenya. And then I will share the posts with you. My first Places to Visit post is on my trip to Karura Forest.
A little history about the forest:
Karura Forest is located in Nairobi. Several tributaries of the Nairobi River flow through the forest. The forest is managed by the Kenya Forest Service and when there were threats to use parts of the forest to put up housing, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Wangari Maathai working through her Green Belt Movement, put up a fight to protect the forest and hence one of the city's water catchment areas. And in that way, one of our most important indigenous forests was saved from encroachment.

My Experiences from the Trip:
I went to Karura before the weather became cold and rainy. Although it was very hot that time of year, once inside the forest, it was so cool and the air so clean that I thought the weather had taken a turn for the better. It was so quiet and serene, I had to relax. You can choose to take either the 5, 10 or 15 km trail. I took the 10km trail and was nice and exhausted afterwards.

Although I'm not a huge nature fan, I enjoyed the greenery and and the sound of the water rushing down the river and waterfalls.

A useful tip for anyone planning to pay a visit to Karura Forest, make sure you wear very comfortable shoes and carry plenty of water. If you are carrying a backpack or any other sort of bag, keep the contents limited to ensure that you have minimal extra weight to lag around.

Have you visited Karura Forest yet? If not would you like to go? Let me know of your experiences in the comments.

Happy Saturday!!!

ABOUT

Hi, I'm Audrey. Welcome to Inches To Style☺ How it started I fell in love with fashion at an early age. In fact, I wanted to be a model and when I realised that I wouldn’t make the cut because of my height, I decided that I would become a fashion designer. I’d been making clothes for my dolls for years so I knew that was a career path I would love to pursue.  I didn’t study fashion nor did I become a fashion designer but my love for clothes and putting outfits together stuck with me.  On September 12, 2011 I wrote my first blog post, after I discovered the world of fashion blogs and got hooked. I thought to myself, “I can do this! I like writing and I like fashion, so why not?” And so Inches To Style was born. What to expect from the blog At first, I wanted this blog to be a source of inspiration for anyone looking to up their style game. As time progressed and my personal style and lifestyle has evolved, I found the name of my blog quite fitting as I’m moving inches (closer) ...

Celebrity Style Crush | Beyonce's Maternity Style

She might be expectant but Beyonce's maternity style has inspired me beyond words. I am loving the colours and prints, the ripped denim, colours and boho vibe that she is showcasing. Be it in jeans or a fancy gown, Queen Bey always looks put together. And does anyone understand how she wears heels when she is pregnant?? Maternity style tips: Opt for colour. Colour will cheer you up and brighten your outfit at the same time. Even if you opt for a black ensemble, add a pop of colour in the form of a coat or with your accessories. Long and flowy dresses don't necessarily have to be frumpy. Figure-hugging maxis or those with an empire waist will be both comfortable and flattering. Add fun accessories like statement necklaces, bags and shoes with interesting details like a message or embellishment. When wearing loose flowing tops, opt for fitted lowers like jeans or leggings to add some proportion. Photo Credits: 1 , 2 You m...

Investing in myself | It's my birthday

Another year older! September is one of my favourite months of the year. Not only is the month  when I started my blog  but it also happens to be my birthday month.  For years I've let this day just go by, smiling whenever people wished me a happy birthday even when deep inside I wasn't too happy. But I wanted to make this birthday different. I was determined to spend it in the best way I possibly could; taking care of myself. I made sure to dress up, even with nowhere to go and did my nails (something I'd been postponing for weeks!). I also decided to do something that I enjoy but hardly make time for i.e. take photos and update the blog! I've wracked my brain trying to think of what to gift myself this year and I couldn't make up my mind. This year being what it is has made me rethink many things. I don't really need to add anything to my wardrobe, my jewellery collection is sufficient although I can't help but admire beautiful accessories online, but do I...
