PLACES TO VISIT: KARURA FOREST

Hi all!! Travel is one of my passions. I've always wanted to visit new places and learn new things. One of my resolutions this year is to take time out to visit different parts of Kenya. And then I will share the posts with you. My first Places to Visit post is on my trip to Karura Forest.
A little history about the forest:
Karura Forest is located in Nairobi. Several tributaries of the Nairobi River flow through the forest. The forest is managed by the Kenya Forest Service and when there were threats to use parts of the forest to put up housing, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Wangari Maathai working through her Green Belt Movement, put up a fight to protect the forest and hence one of the city's water catchment areas. And in that way, one of our most important indigenous forests was saved from encroachment.

My Experiences from the Trip:
I went to Karura before the weather became cold and rainy. Although it was very hot that time of year, once inside the forest, it was so cool and the air so clean that I thought the weather had taken a turn for the better. It was so quiet and serene, I had to relax. You can choose to take either the 5, 10 or 15 km trail. I took the 10km trail and was nice and exhausted afterwards.

Although I'm not a huge nature fan, I enjoyed the greenery and and the sound of the water rushing down the river and waterfalls.

A useful tip for anyone planning to pay a visit to Karura Forest, make sure you wear very comfortable shoes and carry plenty of water. If you are carrying a backpack or any other sort of bag, keep the contents limited to ensure that you have minimal extra weight to lag around.

Have you visited Karura Forest yet? If not would you like to go? Let me know of your experiences in the comments.

Happy Saturday!!!

Style Challenge Day 6: Wear A Bold Print

Hi guys. Phew! Last week was so crazy I couldn't keep up with everything, case in point my 30 day style challenge and weekly video. But I just had to get back to it this week. For day 6, I had to put on a bold print. I don't know if you have noticed but I am not very big on prints. Every time I shop, I automatically go for solid colours and if I pick prints it will inevitably be either stripes or florals. So for this challenge, I opted for a more abstract print. I love the colours of this tunic-style top. The chiffon fabric is light and breezy making it perfect for the warmer weather. I paired it with off-white skinny jeans and some beaded sandals. These sandals are a cross between flip-flops and sliders. I haven't worn such sandals in years so it was nice having a change from my usual shoes. I do believe however, that I need to open up a little to bolder prints and consequently add them to my closet.  Outfit Details: Top and sandals: Gift Jeans: Thrifted (G...

i2s NEWS: A LITTLE BUNDLE OF JOY

Hi all!! No words can describe how happy I am at the moment. A couple of months ago, I discovered that I was going to get the best gift any woman can wish for. I am are expecting a little bundle of joy early next year. I have not shared this news with many people and have been taking fewer and fewer outfit photos for this very reason. So now I can resume documenting this joyous time in our lives. One of the biggest perks about this new phase of my life is that every week my body is different. I’ve put on weight, moved up a dress size and can’t wear some of my favorite clothes and shoes. My heels have become unwearable because of the backache that comes after a few hours in them. I now prefer flats and when I get bored of those, I wear wedges.  As for my clothes, after I realized that wearing my old jeans was proving to be too uncomfortable, I packed them away and started wearing leggings. I now have three pairs of jeans whose waistline is still a bit comfortab...

FEELING GREEN

Hi all!! I hope your week is coming along great. I wore this outfit on Sunday to church. It's not something that I would normally wear to church but I had really missed this dress and it was brought home after I had to leave it behind in India due to excess luggage.  I paired it with black leggings because stockings seem to make some of my dresses ride when I'm walking due to static. These chunky ankle boots were my accessory of choice together with this scarf which I wore specifically to hide the cartoon on my t-shirt that was peeping out.   This is my failed attempt at making a turban. I couldn't figure out what to do with the edges of the scarf so I just made my usual band. Outfit Details: Dress: Kamla Nagar Market, India Boots: gift from mum Handbag and neck-scarf: mum's Scarf as headband: from my sister Bracelets: gifts Earrings: gift  I carried this bag on Saturday and I didn't have tome to change it so I just decided it woul...
