PLACES TO VISIT: KARURA FOREST

Hi all!! Travel is one of my passions. I've always wanted to visit new places and learn new things. One of my resolutions this year is to take time out to visit different parts of Kenya. And then I will share the posts with you. My first Places to Visit post is on my trip to Karura Forest.
A little history about the forest:
Karura Forest is located in Nairobi. Several tributaries of the Nairobi River flow through the forest. The forest is managed by the Kenya Forest Service and when there were threats to use parts of the forest to put up housing, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Wangari Maathai working through her Green Belt Movement, put up a fight to protect the forest and hence one of the city's water catchment areas. And in that way, one of our most important indigenous forests was saved from encroachment.

My Experiences from the Trip:
I went to Karura before the weather became cold and rainy. Although it was very hot that time of year, once inside the forest, it was so cool and the air so clean that I thought the weather had taken a turn for the better. It was so quiet and serene, I had to relax. You can choose to take either the 5, 10 or 15 km trail. I took the 10km trail and was nice and exhausted afterwards.

Although I'm not a huge nature fan, I enjoyed the greenery and and the sound of the water rushing down the river and waterfalls.

A useful tip for anyone planning to pay a visit to Karura Forest, make sure you wear very comfortable shoes and carry plenty of water. If you are carrying a backpack or any other sort of bag, keep the contents limited to ensure that you have minimal extra weight to lag around.

Have you visited Karura Forest yet? If not would you like to go? Let me know of your experiences in the comments.

Happy Saturday!!!

What I wore: Light florals

Happy new month! I went clothes shopping earlier this year and made sure to buy dresses that weren't black. I love black dresses but lately I've been craving a little more colour in my wardrobe.  Florals and lighter colours are always a great idea when its warmer. When you think summer, you automatically think of light breezy fabrics and flowers in bloom. This is what this dress represents for me.  I loved the light blue colour and the tie-waist which mean I can wear it through all my weight fluctuations (I tend to lose and put on weight quite frequently).  Keeping to the light colour theme, I paired the dress with some light coloured sneakers.  Thank you for stopping by. ABOUT

Hi, I'm Audrey. Welcome to Inches To Style☺ How it started I fell in love with fashion at an early age. In fact, I wanted to be a model and when I realised that I wouldn’t make the cut because of my height, I decided that I would become a fashion designer. I’d been making clothes for my dolls for years so I knew that was a career path I would love to pursue.  I didn’t study fashion nor did I become a fashion designer but my love for clothes and putting outfits together stuck with me.  On September 12, 2011 I wrote my first blog post, after I discovered the world of fashion blogs and got hooked. I thought to myself, “I can do this! I like writing and I like fashion, so why not?” And so Inches To Style was born. What to expect from the blog At first, I wanted this blog to be a source of inspiration for anyone looking to up their style game. As time progressed and my personal style and lifestyle has evolved, I found the name of my blog quite fitting as I’m moving inches (closer) ...

What I Wore: Denim and Boots

Baby, it's cold out. I opened the door today and couldn't believe how cold it was. Makes today's outfit post all the more appropriate☺ Denim has to be my favourite go-to piece when it's cold whether it's the old school type or jeggings. They keep you warm and can be paired with anything and everything. And now that working from home has become the thing, and I don't own sweatpants, denim is number one on my what to wear list. I paired these high-waisted jeans with a grey long-sleeved top and navy trench coat. If I was to wear this outfit out, I would have paired them with these black boots. I felt that they helped complete the whole winter vibe. Outfit details: Jeans, top, coat: Thrifted (Gikomba) Boots: Online (Lanem Shoe Closet/Facebook) Thank you for stopping by.
