Decor: 15 Statement Wall Ideas

Growing up walls were one colour throughout the house, a shade of white. If you were lucky then maybe you'd get one bedroom with blue walls and the other with pink walls. But now, it's absolutely possible to have not just one but a statement wall in every room of your house.

What is a statement wall?
A statement wall is a bold, striking feature on your wall that stands out in your home or office. It starts a conversation. A statement wall can be full of colour or print depending on your preference.

Useful tips for creating statement walls
  • You can create a statement wall by simply painting one wall a contrasting colour from the rest of the walls in any particular room for example red, black, dark blue. yellow, etc.
  • Either paint on or use wall paper to get the desired look.
  • Statement walls can be used to add colour to an otherwise plain room, especially if your furnishings are plain.
  • Prints are also a fun way to make a statement. Choose between stripes, floral prints, abstract art or geometric shapes.
  • Smaller, more subtle prints are great for bedrooms as they are more relaxing for instance, stars for a bedroom wall, especially for children.
  • Framed photographs, quotes and other wall hangings can be put up on one wall to make a statement.

Eight No-Spend Activities I Love

Over the last couple of months, I have learnt to find ways to enjoy myself and spend little to no money. Most of these activities are indoor activities. 1. Reading I love reading and I'm trying to read more. I tend to spend a lot of time watching things either on YouTube or a series but this is something I have been trying to change. 2. Cooking I find cooking very therapeutic. I love coming up with new recipes using ingredients that are already in the house.  3. Upcycling my clothes A friend gave me this idea some time back but I have been unable to sufficiently take it up until I decided that I needed a new wardrobe. Since I still like some of my old clothes I decided to give them new life by upcyling them. 4. Sort through my photos My photos folder on my laptop is a mess and I have taken to going through my old photos sorting them out into the appropriate folders and eventually backing them up. I have been saying that I want to print some so I think t...

In fact, I wanted to be a model and when I realised that I wouldn’t make the cut because of my height, I decided that I would become a fashion designer. I’d been making clothes for my dolls for years so I knew that was a career path I would love to pursue.  I didn’t study fashion nor did I become a fashion designer but my love for clothes and putting outfits together stuck with me.  On September 12, 2011 I wrote my first blog post, after I discovered the world of fashion blogs and got hooked. I thought to myself, “I can do this! I like writing and I like fashion, so why not?” And so Inches To Style was born. What to expect from the blog At first, I wanted this blog to be a source of inspiration for anyone looking to up their style game. As time progressed and my personal style and lifestyle has evolved, I found the name of my blog quite fitting as I’m moving inches (closer) ...
