Wardrobe Basics: A Basic Black Dress

I don't like dictating what you should and shouldn't wear, but I believe a basic black dress is a must, must-have. I don't think there is anything more important than a basic black dress in a woman's wardrobe, maybe apart from good underwear of course. You can own it in any form: a maxi dress, a sheath dress, a shift dress, a skater dress, a mini dress, a slip dress, a wrap dress, name it (hmmmm, I think this warrants a post on the types of dresses don't you think?)

How To Style a Black Dress
The beauty of having such a classic, versatile piece in your wardrobe is that you can style it in a multitude of ways for a wide variety of occasions. Here are four different ways you can wear a black dress. I chose different ones but you can always restyle the same dress by switching accessories and lip colour.

1. To Work

I paired it with a blazer, heels and a statement necklace. A black dress is the perfect canvass to display your statement necklaces. A structured bag completes this work outfit.

2. Night Out

For a night out, I prefer sequins, tights and comfortable heels, flats or wedges if you want to dance all night.

3. Relaxed Weekend

When I think of weekends, I think of turbans. Ok, I'm a little obsessed but they are so great and perfect for those bad hair days. Accessorize with gladiator sandals, a bucket bag and you are good to go.

4. Rocker Chic

I think I have a goth side. See, I love black, leather, combat boots, dark lipstick, black nail polish, piercings, tattoos...OK, enough, back to the post. Pair your black dress with black combat boots or any ankle boots for that matter, add a leather jacket (on my wishlist for the longest time), a chunky necklace and a darker lip.

Style Challenge Day 18 - Dress down your favourite little black dress

The little black dress has to be my favourite fashion item of all time. I believe you can't have too many black dresses. For today's challenge I picked this black dress which has leather detailing on the shoulders. I last wore it on the blog here . I paired it with Toms, a trend that I can't get enough of. I absolutely love the contrast of a smart dress paired with sneakers. In cooler weather I would have added a denim jacket but seeing as the sun is closer to the ground these days, I opted to go without the jacket. I felt I needed some colour hence the necklace. I have started becoming a huge fan of smaller earrings. I wear these at least three times a week. What is your take on the whole sneakers with anything and everything trend? Have you tried it out? Even now there are some people I consider to be my style icons. I don’t want to imitate their style blindly, but pick out certain aspects that really stand out to me and reflect my personal style. In polka dots One of those people is Solange Knowles. I originally preferred Beyonce’s style but there is something about Solange Knowles that I absolutely love. She has a bold style and isn’t afraid of playing with colour. FEELS LIKE AUTUMN

Hi all!!! I hope you’re having a better week than I am. I know it’s only Tuesday but I’m feeling so low I just want this week to end. I’m currently reading a book that is forcing me to look at my life and make some changes for the better. I have been struggling with some things the reality of which I have been running away from. But I’ve come to realize that I will have to face this reality sooner or later. I’ve decided to do it now instead of carrying a lot of unnecessary baggage with me for the rest of my youth. Back to today's post. There are times when my creativity is on overdrive. Those are the days when I'll come up with an outfit that leaves me feeling super proud of myself and makes me walk on cloud nine. I wore this to work last Monday and what a mood booster it was!! Have you realized how your mood is instantly uplifted if you are dressed well? This skirt is one of my projects that  I categorized in my 4 goals before 2013 . I had said I wanted to get m...
