Wardrobe Basics: A Basic Black Dress

I don't like dictating what you should and shouldn't wear, but I believe a basic black dress is a must, must-have. I don't think there is anything more important than a basic black dress in a woman's wardrobe, maybe apart from good underwear of course. You can own it in any form: a maxi dress, a sheath dress, a shift dress, a skater dress, a mini dress, a slip dress, a wrap dress, name it (hmmmm, I think this warrants a post on the types of dresses don't you think?)

How To Style a Black Dress
The beauty of having such a classic, versatile piece in your wardrobe is that you can style it in a multitude of ways for a wide variety of occasions. Here are four different ways you can wear a black dress. I chose different ones but you can always restyle the same dress by switching accessories and lip colour.

1. To Work

I paired it with a blazer, heels and a statement necklace. A black dress is the perfect canvass to display your statement necklaces. A structured bag completes this work outfit.

2. Night Out

For a night out, I prefer sequins, tights and comfortable heels, flats or wedges if you want to dance all night.

3. Relaxed Weekend

When I think of weekends, I think of turbans. Ok, I'm a little obsessed but they are so great and perfect for those bad hair days. Accessorize with gladiator sandals, a bucket bag and you are good to go.

4. Rocker Chic

I think I have a goth side. See, I love black, leather, combat boots, dark lipstick, black nail polish, piercings, tattoos...OK, enough, back to the post. Pair your black dress with black combat boots or any ankle boots for that matter, add a leather jacket (on my wishlist for the longest time), a chunky necklace and a darker lip.

How else would you wear your basic black dress? Do share in the comments below.

Five Books I Want To Read in 2019

My love for reading books has always been bubbling beneath the surface and it has finally blown over. I've not always been a great reader. To make matters worse, motherhood has given me even less time for leisure activities like reading. However, I started pushing myself a bit and now I make time to read.  I find it a good use of time to read while in the matatu, when I take myself on a lunch date or when my eyes need a rest from constantly staring at a screen.  This year, I have decided to challenge myself a bit more by documenting the books I have read and loved as well as have a running list of books that I would love to read. Below are five books that I am keen to read this year. 1. Memoirs of a Geisha 2. Becoming by Michelle Obama 3. An Edited Life by Anna Newton 4. Reasons to stay alive by Matt Haig 5. Heart and hustle by Patricia Bright Which books do you think I should add to my reading list? Thank you for stopping by....

HOLLYWOOD INSPIRATION: Neon Dress

I'm a huge fan of bold colours, so you can guess how excited I am about the neon trend. When I saw Jennifer Lopez in this neon yellow dress and pink heels I was so happy to realize that this is a very easy outfit to redo.  Image via Yahoo Here's how I would style this dress.  I chose this other dress because I love the cut and I thought I would style it as well. WHAT I WORE: Fashion Trance 2012

Hi all!! Happy new month. I hope you are as excited as I am for the holidays. Last week, I won a pair of VIP tickets from Nancie Mwai to attend the Fashion Trance event held at the Mamba Village, Nairobi. I was so excited to have worn. I think this is the first giveaway I've ever won!!!  I went for a practical yet chic look because the weather was so uncertain. I chose my purple denim trousers, a sequin top and wedges. I carried my trench coat because I knew I would be reaching the house very late.   Because sequins can be a little too much, I kept my jewellery simple by wearing my ethnic Indian chandelier earrings which I absolutely love, a polka dot bracelet and purple ring. I had wanted to carry a clutch but then I realized that it wouldn't fit all the things I wanted to carry so I opted for this handbag. Oh and I finally got the first edition of my business cards. I'm so excited, I'd been meaning to get them done for so long that on Friday I ...
