FEELS LIKE AUTUMN

Hi all!!! I hope you’re having a better week than I am. I know it’s only Tuesday but I’m feeling so low I just want this week to end. I’m currently reading a book that is forcing me to look at my life and make some changes for the better. I have been struggling with some things the reality of which I have been running away from. But I’ve come to realize that I will have to face this reality sooner or later. I’ve decided to do it now instead of carrying a lot of unnecessary baggage with me for the rest of my youth.
Back to today's post. There are times when my creativity is on overdrive. Those are the days when I'll come up with an outfit that leaves me feeling super proud of myself and makes me walk on cloud nine. I wore this to work last Monday and what a mood booster it was!! Have you realized how your mood is instantly uplifted if you are dressed well?

This skirt is one of my projects that  I categorized in my 4 goals before 2013. I had said I wanted to get more sewing done and this is what I started with. I had to alter it in a major way to get it down to my size and I did it all by hand because the sewing machine at home is out of service. Since this is it's debut on the blog, I kept the outfit simple by pairing it with other brown and black shades with the hint of red on the skirt being brought out by my earrings.

As the weather has been so pleasant (i.e warm/hot) in the last couple of days, I've been trying to enjoy my skirts and dresses. But on this particular day, the weather took a turn for the worse and it rained so much as I was leaving the office that I was soaked form the  waist down.

When I want to draw attention to my outfit, I like to keep my accessories to a minimum. I wore my new watch (a gift!!! I finally have a watch!!) a belt to emphasize the peplum (or is it??) jacket and an animal print scarf. Since my heels wearing days are few and far between (read why here) I have started investing in wedges. I fell in love with these wedges immediately I saw them. They are a perfect fit and have a cute bow infront and a plus I can wear them with a large number of outfits (last worn here) from formal to casual.

 Outfit Details:
Skirt: gift from mum
Jacket: Sarojini Market, India
Scarf: borrowed from mum (she has such a great collection)
Handbag: gift
Wedges: Nairobi street (Ksh. 200)
Earrings: gift
Headband: INA Market, India
Belt: from my sister

P/S When I was leaving the house my sister said, "You look like autumn!!!" Hence the title of this post. And I got so many compliments on this day I will try to keep it up, hoping my struggles don't get the better of me!!!

Happy Tuesday!!!

Eight No-Spend Activities I Love

Over the last couple of months, I have learnt to find ways to enjoy myself and spend little to no money. Most of these activities are indoor activities. 1. Reading I love reading and I'm trying to read more. I tend to spend a lot of time watching things either on YouTube or a series but this is something I have been trying to change. 2. Cooking I find cooking very therapeutic. I love coming up with new recipes using ingredients that are already in the house.  3. Upcycling my clothes A friend gave me this idea some time back but I have been unable to sufficiently take it up until I decided that I needed a new wardrobe. Since I still like some of my old clothes I decided to give them new life by upcyling them. 4. Sort through my photos My photos folder on my laptop is a mess and I have taken to going through my old photos sorting them out into the appropriate folders and eventually backing them up. I have been saying that I want to print some so I think t...

A labour of love: Long days, bee stings and a global premiere

“Amkeni” roughly translates to “Rise Up” in Kiswahili. This is the call of Chambuko Amkeni, a community-led conservation group involved in mangrove restoration and protection. In 2025, I had the honour of working with them to document their journey on women’s leadership in coastal and marine conservation, climate change adaptation and the blue economy, for a collaboration between Mission inclusion and the BBC StoryWorks'   for the   Living Legacy Series . This was my first time working on a project of this magnitude not to mention one that would have a global audience. To say this has been one of the highlights of the last two years is an understatement. Just thinking about it, my heart swells with pride. I feel like a mother watching her baby grow and come of age (please don't tell my daughter this!). With members of the Chambuko Amkeni Group Leading the production of Amkeni with my amazing colleagues was a true labour of love. A vision come to life thanks to the support o...
