Black Maxi Dress + Cargo Vest

Black being one of my favourite colours, or neutral for that matter, has got me searching my brain and Pinterest for new and different ways that I can style it. When I first came across this cargo vest, I knew that this would be the first outfit I would create with it. Using a black maxi dress as a canvas, I chose to use the vest as a statement piece that would add interest to an otherwise ordinary look. I tried to elevate the look a bit with a statement necklace and animal print scarf worn as a turban. My black studded belt and high-heel brogue booties completed the outfit.
One of my best challenges that I have carried to the new year is to make sure that I experiment with looks that I have come across and liked and this is just one of them. I can't wait to share the rest with you.

Do you sometimes wish you could pull off certain looks only for them to start and end in your imagination? Would you make it a goal for 2016 to get out of your comfort zone and try out said outfits?

2ND BLOG ANNIVERSARY

Hi all!! Today I mark two years since I started blogging. First and foremost, I would love to thank all of you for all the support you have given me over the last two years.  Over the last year a lot has happened on the blog and in my life that has left me questioning what value I am adding to my readers' lives. I look at some of my previous posts and wonder how I can do things differently. I want to give you all a different experience when you visit Inches To Style.  Hence, with the beginning of my 3rd year of blogging, I have re-examined my reasons for blogging and have decided to take steps to bring my original ideas to fruition. My one and obly reason for starting Inches To Style was to give women and men a guide to help them dress well. After carefully observing people's outfit choices in the CBD, I felt that something needed to be done. Someone needed to come out and say, "Hey, leggings are not pants!", "You look like you're wearing a...

What I Wore | Feminine Pieces

Some days ago I watched a YouTube video that inspired me to push myself a bit more. I can't remember what the video was all about but I remember the vlogger saying that you should create more than you consume. That what we consume should serve to inspire us to create more.  Ever since I watched that video, I have been asking myself why I don't create as much as I used to. I feel like I have let my creativity slide and half the time I feel disappointed in myself for slacking. Granted, life has been tough on me over the last couple of years and this has had a domino effect on different aspects of my life.  I would love to get to a point where the happenings in life don't have such an effect on me but that is a work in progress.  I've been trying to push my creativity through my choice of outfits. Most days I gravitate towards my comfortable jeggings and a t-shirt but on other days I actually make an effort to put together two pieces that I would not ordinarily wear to...

Rediscovering myself

A few blog posts ago I alluded to struggles I'd been facing for a few years now. I said that I would address these issues here soon but honestly, I didn't know when would be a good time. So I thought that today is as good a day as any. Last year I was diagnosed with trauma. It had been years in the making, a result of an emotionally abusive relationship and years of challenging events with seemingly no respite in sight. Although I had eventually gotten out of the relationship, I had unconsciously allowed this person's opinions of me become so ingrained in me that I had lost all knowledge of my former self. I lacked self-confidence. I blamed myself for many things that had happened in my life. I was perpetually sad and struggled to find even the smallest things to smile about. I had no motivation to do even those things that I loved. I would take photos and see my smiling face but deep down I knew that was just a front. I was broken, a shell of my former self. Now I'm no...
