Intro

I love clothes, shoes, bags, jewellery and all things fashion. When I walk on the streets, go to offices, parties or even when I’m meeting people, I can’t help but notice what those around me are wearing. I like to take in their choice of outfit, the shoes they chose to wear and the bag they chose to carry. I look at the make up the lady has applied, is it too much or just enough? What hair style do they have? Is the outfit appropriate for the particular time of day and/or event? When I read newspapers or magazines I quickly flip to the style pages, something I’m sure many, many girls do.
As I walk through the streets of Nairobi after a somewhat long absence, I can’t help but notice how Kenyan ladies as well as the guys have embraced the latest fashion trends. However, I feel disconcerted when I see people follow fashion trends blindly. As ladies, more so as African ladies, it’s important to remember your body type when choosing an outfit. Not all the trends that are in are flattering to the African figure. Thus make the trend work for you by selecting pieces that flatter your body shape.
In this blog, I’ll try to showcase that as an African woman I can put on any outfit that I like but always remembering that I have to dress as if I respect first myself and then those around me. I'll also touch on other aspects that make a woman because clothes and shoes do not make up all that a woman is.

ABOUT

Hi, I'm Audrey. Welcome to Inches To Style☺ How it started I fell in love with fashion at an early age. In fact, I wanted to be a model and when I realised that I wouldn’t make the cut because of my height, I decided that I would become a fashion designer. I’d been making clothes for my dolls for years so I knew that was a career path I would love to pursue.  I didn’t study fashion nor did I become a fashion designer but my love for clothes and putting outfits together stuck with me.  On September 12, 2011 I wrote my first blog post, after I discovered the world of fashion blogs and got hooked. I thought to myself, “I can do this! I like writing and I like fashion, so why not?” And so Inches To Style was born. What to expect from the blog At first, I wanted this blog to be a source of inspiration for anyone looking to up their style game. As time progressed and my personal style and lifestyle has evolved, I found the name of my blog quite fitting as I’m moving inches (closer) ...

WHAT I WORE: Cropped Sunday

Hi all!! Happy new week! My love for crop tops has reached an ultimate high. So much so that I got one of my old t-shirts and made a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) crop top. I wore it yesterday, paired with my blue maxi skirt. I added a scarf, heels and a clutch to complete the outfit. With the weather being as confused as it is, I have all my clothes on standby. There are days when I choose warmer ones and others, like yesterday when I go for something more summery.  I have had these box braids for three weeks now and I must say, I am still in love with them. And, I’m becoming a pro at holding them in a bun. I now want to look for a new way to style them.  Outfit Details: Maxi Skirt: gift from India Crop top: DIY, gift Sequin and lace Scarf: Gikomba Market, Nairobi KSh. 50 Heels: Moi Avenue (hawkers) KSh.100 Clutch: Ngara Market, Nairobi KSh. 100 Bangles: Sarojini Market, India Loop Earrings: gift Have you tried wearing crop tops yet? ...

ACCESSORIZE: New Hair Accessories

I recently got my braids out and relaxed my hair. Well actually it's been more than a month. Having my hair out for me means that I have to find interesting and creative ways to style it. One way of doing that easily is to use cute hair accessories from hair pins to headbands. I've done a previous post on headbands that I had my eye on. I bought these a few weeks ago and thought I'd feature them in my blog. There's a specific man from whom I buy hair clips from. He always has such cute ones. I got one of Angry Birds!!! But I forgot to include it here. (The child in me!!!) The flower hair clips come in more colours but I had to narrow down and pick just a few. I find these colours to be fun and refreshing, ideal for summer! And as usual I had to include a black one in the haul. I bought these headbands at the same time as the Angry Birds hair clip. I didn't keep them in the same place. I guess that's why I forgot about it. Hmmm seems to me ...
