What I wore: Alladin pants

Denim will always hold a special place in my heart but in the last two years, when it gets hot outside, I just can't stand wearing denim. That made me shop for trousers made of lighter fabrics, those that breath more easily and would ensure that I didn't cook in my clothes. Enter these harem pants.

Where to begin? I love the colour, they're light enough to repel the sun's rays. Their neutral colour can very easily be paired with any other colour in my closet. I can wear them to work, a huge plus, and they're quite flattering.

The only issue I have with them is which shoes to style them with aside from sandals but we'll find a solution.

On this day it was particularly hot. So I opted to for a simple black corset-style top and light denim jacket for when the temperature dipped later in the day. I added the necklace for some drama and some black sandals to complete the outfit.

If you were to wear these trousers out, what shoes would you pair them with?

A Pop of Colour

I tend to gravitate towards darker colours. To counter that, I always look for ways to add some colour to my outfits. Red accessories tend to be my go-to when it comes to adding pops of colour be it in the form of red shoes, a red necklace or some red lipstick. I've started using this same philosophy in life by doing something that I know will give me joy. It doesn't have to be anything extraordinary. Most of the time it's doing something I enjoy, like writing in my journal or reading a few chapters of my novel. Other times it's performing a task that I have been postponing for a while, like clearing out my laptop or talking to a friend. The end result is always a feeling of accomplishment. I look at this time as 'me time'; an opportunity to add some colour to my life.  Outfit Details: Dress - Thrifted (Gikomba); Coat - Gift; Shoes - Gift; Necklace - Old (Instagram shop); Earrings - Gift With this post, I have finally caught up with pending pos...

What I Wore | Feminine Pieces

Some days ago I watched a YouTube video that inspired me to push myself a bit more. I can't remember what the video was all about but I remember the vlogger saying that you should create more than you consume. That what we consume should serve to inspire us to create more.  Ever since I watched that video, I have been asking myself why I don't create as much as I used to. I feel like I have let my creativity slide and half the time I feel disappointed in myself for slacking. Granted, life has been tough on me over the last couple of years and this has had a domino effect on different aspects of my life.  I would love to get to a point where the happenings in life don't have such an effect on me but that is a work in progress.  I've been trying to push my creativity through my choice of outfits. Most days I gravitate towards my comfortable jeggings and a t-shirt but on other days I actually make an effort to put together two pieces that I would not ordinarily wear to...

Rediscovering myself

A few blog posts ago I alluded to struggles I'd been facing for a few years now. I said that I would address these issues here soon but honestly, I didn't know when would be a good time. So I thought that today is as good a day as any. Last year I was diagnosed with trauma. It had been years in the making, a result of an emotionally abusive relationship and years of challenging events with seemingly no respite in sight. Although I had eventually gotten out of the relationship, I had unconsciously allowed this person's opinions of me become so ingrained in me that I had lost all knowledge of my former self. I lacked self-confidence. I blamed myself for many things that had happened in my life. I was perpetually sad and struggled to find even the smallest things to smile about. I had no motivation to do even those things that I loved. I would take photos and see my smiling face but deep down I knew that was just a front. I was broken, a shell of my former self. Now I'm no...
